Soccer Keepers are a special breed. You have to be in order to face the pressure of having the game rest on your shoulders. Coaches need to develop an understanding of the fundamental techniques, player fitness as well as the psychology of developing successful goalies. It is certainly an area where almost all coaches could improve their understanding of the game. At younger ages, teams should use a variety of players to fulfill the goalie’s duties in a match. Position specialization can begin at U12 and beyond.
