Goalkeeper Suicides are a great way to get your gk's fit! This fitness drill incorporates goalkeeper footwork, within the gk's home, the 18 yard box.

  • Number of Players: Any
  • Equipment: Lined 18 yard and 6 yard box
  • Time: 2-5 minutes
  • This drill is done completely with a lined 18 yd box
  • The gk should start in the middle of the goal on the goal line
  • Have the gk  shuffle along the line, to the left, to where the 6 yd line meets the end line
  • Then change direction and shuffle to the other side of the 6yd line then back to the middle
  • When they arrive at the middle the gk  should sprint to the left top corner of the 6 yd box, then back pedal to the middle of the goal line - complete this exact motion to the right
  • Next the gk is going to karaoke along the baseline to where it meets the 18yd line, then karaoke to the other 18yd line and back to the middle
  • From the middle of the goal again, the gk will sprint to the left upper corner of the 18 yd box and then cross step back to the middle of the goal line, repeat the same movements to the right
  • When they have reached the middle of the goal line they have completed the goalkeeper suicide!
  • To make it harder for your gk, put a time constraint on them. Encourage them to push themselves to finish the drill under a certain time
  • Also, to increase fitness have a gk complete more than one set of suicides at a time

Tell The Team: (Remember - stay focused)

  • Make sure your gk has a good understanding of the footwork in this drill, shuffling, karaoke, backpedaling, and cross stepping - steps can save seconds, which can save goals!
  • Fitness is easier when you have encouragement from your teammates! By working in pairs or groups it can give players time to recover and also lend support to help them excel at the drill!
